In my house, if you use the last ice cube in the tray, or if there are three or less ice cubes left after you take yours, FILL THE TRAY.

My desire was for a glass of Coke on ice with my ham and cheese sandwich. That would have made me happy right now. A Coke and a smile.

Instead, I am rinsing with warm iced tea (an oxymoron if I ever heard one) because warm Coke just doesn’t cut it.

Soup Meister

Butternut Squash Soup

I think I know what I want to be when I grow up. I want to be a soup maker. Is there a special name for that? Something French and sort of culinary-ish, perhaps? Or better yet, German? “Soup Meister.” Yes, I like it. When I grow up I will be the Soup Meister.
I made butternut squash soup for the first time tonight. I’m happy when I’m making soup. I’m even happier when I’m eating soup.

Smells good

Butternut soup is easy to make… sautee chopped onions in butter… add 6 cups of chicken broth… at 2 to 3 pounds of chopped butternut squash… simmer until the squash is soft… puree the squash in a blender…
Ah… that’s where things went wrong for me. It seems we had two blenders in the house after my son moved home last summer. My daughter, ever the one to organize and de-clutter the house, did away with one of the blenders. However, she mistakenly did away with the base from one and the glass jar from the other. Now we have a base and jar that don’t fit properly. So, I had to squash the squash by hand through a colander.
The end result was delicious! Add a little salt and pepper. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Yum!

Yum!

Now I’ll have to tell my kids I want a new blender for Father’s Day.

If I start now I can finish this movie by 2:04 AM. Closer to 2:06 by the time I post this and put the movie in the dvd player.

The problem is that it’s going to make me want to go to Gettysburg. 2:06 AM might not be the best time to set out on that journey.
