On the Wall (2004)
(Originally posted on the website Heron Flight)
EVERYBODY likes to write on the walls! Right?
Since I rent my house and can’t draw directly on the walls, I bought a roll of paper at Staples and covered one of the dining room walls. I had been thinking of doing so for a while. I wanted a place where everyone was free to be creative. Now we have it. The wall is 8 to 10 feet wide. It’s covered with paper from top to bottom. Anyone who enters the house is free to add their artwork to the wall. The only rule is that you don’t interfere with someone else’s work unless they say you can.
I’ve been taking pictures of the progress of the artwork. The actual drawings are much brighter. So you really should stop by for a visit and see them for yourself. But since it’s a little bit of a drive for some of you, I’ll be posting the pictures here. (Do try to stop by though. It’s been a while since you dropped in!)
The artwork began in the dining room but is spreading to other parts of the house. I have drawings started in two spots in my room. Tim is going to cover one of his walls. And we are planning on covering the ceiling of the stairway with paper and calling it the Sistine Chapel. Stay tuned for photos!
