Wildlife in the Hood

(Originally posted on the website Heron Flight)

In addition to seeing bears around our house recently, there are a zillion other creatures lurking about. Here are a few samples of things spotted just this weekend.

First, we have a friendly deer that doesn’t mind us approaching her and getting fairly close while she is eating in the yard. We have named her “Deer Darla.” (Get it? Little Rascals? Alfalfa? “Dear Darla”? Oh well.)

Next, a green toad who proudly posed for a photo… after I nearly stepped on him sitting right in the path through our woods! Bad toad! Bad!

Meanwhile, on the porch… A spotted moth was spotted.

Within four feet of each other… mosquitoes were mating… (Sorry. It’s blurry. I got so excited at the thought of skeeter porn.) (And they were closer together than four feet.)

…and a dragon fly was dying at the (8) hands of a spider…

Bermuda High

(Originally posted on the website Heron Flight)

We are experiencing the first heat wave of the season here in New Jersey.

Here’s an email from a weather service that I got today:

A LARGE BERMUDA HIGH WILL REMAIN OVER THE REGION INTO NEXT WEEK PROVIDING THE REGION WITH HOT & HUMID WEATHER.

A “large Bermuda HIGH”?? Sweet! Everybody around here is gonna have the munchies, man!
